PORTFOLIO - Ryan Fitton (New)
This website was part of my re-design for my own existing website. I decided to re-design because I felt it was needed to give a more modern and simpler design, I also thought it would have been better and easier for me to design and develop a new website rather than try to make the previous website better, the design and feel on the old version of my site did not represent what I thought about website design and development. However I feel that this new version shows my understanding of design and web development because there are a lot more useful additions such as a new Twitter design based in the side bar on the right side. This sidebar shows different parts of the website that will link the user to them with one mouse click. In the Photos section of the sidebar I have managed to produce a PHP scrip that will randomly show different albums from the website on each page load. Another bonus with the new site design is that the Portfolio feels modern and easier to use; thanks to the categories 'Web', 'Design' and 'Print'.
The new re-branding for the website will also come with more bonuses; users can see that the website is modern improving the chance of work and people contacting and asking questions, I also think that this new website does not seem out dated for the 'Modern Web'.
All of the design is W3C XHTML 1.0 Transitional and W3C CSS 2.1 valid, this means that the website will show correctly on all modern internet browsers.
At the bottom of the website shows a large 'Footer Bar' this shows my latest Flickr photos, links to my different social networks, a contact link, easy navigation links and what song I have been recently listening to on Last.FM. To get all of these features working I have created and programmed using PHP. This is a powerful scripting language which enables you to create and effectively manage scripts that add more functionality into a website than what a standard website page would offer.
Lastly the new website uses SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) friendly website links; if you look in the address bar of your internet browser you will see that there is no .html, .htm or .php extensions at the end of the website address, this makes it easier for people to understand and remember these links, also search engines such as Google and Yahoo will find the website more easily and give better search results.
